Dr Bassam Alkari

Consultant HPB Surgeon and Senior Lecturer University of Aberdeen

Mr Alkari graduated from Damascus University (Syria) in 1994. He then undertook his surgical training in the North West of England before being appointed as a Consultant HPB and Laparoscopic Surgeon in Aberdeen in 2008.

Mr Alkari specialises in complex liver, pancreas and bile duct diseases with a specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques. Mr Alkari contributed to the introduction of a One-Stop Gallstone clinic both at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and at BMI Albyn Hospital. Mr Alkari is the Clinical Lead for Laparoscopic Spleen Surgery in collaboration with the Haematology Department.

Mr Alkari holds an academic appointment at the University of Aberdeen as a senior lecturer and is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Mr Alkari has got a special interest in Education and Training for Undergraduates and Postgraduates at both Local, National and International level. He holds a role of Clinical and Educational Supervisor for Post-graduate Surgical Trainees. He has published two Chapters in Journals focussed on post-graduate education.

Mr Alkari has published peer-reviewed articles pertaining to Specialist Laparoscopic Liver and Pancreatic Surgery and has presented at national and international conferences.
